Free parking
On-street parking in Trondheim is normally free in the evening, at night and on Sundays and public holidays — but the charging hours are set by the municipality and shown on the sign, so always check the signs. Car parks and garages usually charge around the clock. The most reliable free options are park-and-ride sites and time-limited parking-disc spaces.
- Motorcycle and scooter spaces: Two-wheeled mopeds, scooters and motorcycles may park free of charge in spaces marked for motorcycles. The ordinary charge applies in standard paid spaces.
- Shopping-centre parking: City Lade offers three hours free and Sirkus Shopping one hour free. The free period is limited to one per day.
EV charging and parking
Electric cars and plug-in hybrids pay the same parking charge as other cars. At municipal charging bays, parking and charging are paid separately. From 1 June 2026, regular charging with Current costs 3.30 kr/kWh and fast or rapid charging 5.90 kr/kWh. Other charging apps may add a surcharge.
Electric and hydrogen cars now normally pay the ordinary charge on municipal parking. There is no national free-or-discount rule — each municipality decides for itself whether to grant an exemption (Parking Regulations § 34), and more and more charge the full price. Check locally.

Disabled parking
A valid accessible-parking permit gives access to reserved accessible spaces and must be displayed visibly in the windscreen. Other conditions follow the signs.
