Free parking
On-street parking in Ålesund is normally free in the evening, at night and on Sundays and public holidays — but the charging hours are set by the municipality and shown on the sign, so always check the signs. Car parks and garages usually charge around the clock. The most reliable free options are park-and-ride sites and time-limited parking-disc spaces.

A valid disabled parking permit gives free parking at reserved public disabled bays, other public paid spaces and in residential zones without a zone permit. Motorhome parking
Allowed: Ålesund has two central motorhome sites: Skjerva and Hjelsetgården. Both cost 37.50 kr per hour or 375 kr per day, with a minimum charge of 150 kr from 1 July 2026. Spaces cannot be reserved.
