Parking in Arendal
Arendal has many free short-stay spaces in the centre, often with a maximum parking time of 30 minutes, and several spaces where you park free by using a parking disc. At charged spaces signed with a maximum of 1, 2 or 3 hours, EVs, hydrogen cars and electric motorcycles can park free – but the maximum time still applies. The centre has three car parks (Tyholmen, Pollen and Torvet) with payment via Autopay or EasyPark. From 1 January 2026 you can no longer pay with coins at the machines.

Resident parking
Arendal does not publish a standard residential-zone scheme, but residents in and near the centre can apply to rent a municipal parking space. The scheme applies to specified areas and does not permit parking contrary to signs or traffic rules. Private parking garages have their own contacts and long-term rental agreements.

Free parking
On-street parking in Arendal is normally free in the evening, at night and on Sundays and public holidays — but the charging hours are set by the municipality and shown on the sign, so always check the signs. Car parks and garages usually charge around the clock. The most reliable free options are park-and-ride sites and time-limited parking-disc spaces.
- Arendal has many free short-stay spaces with a 30-minute maximum. Some are time-limited 24/7, others Mon–Sat 08:00–18:00. Signs decide.
- At spaces marked with the parking-disc symbol, show the arrival time with a parking disc, clear note or EasyPark registration.
- The municipality lists 30-minute spaces at Malmbryggen, Torvgaten, Torvet east, Strandgaten, Friergangen, Østre gate up to Hylleveien, Kirkebakken, Kirkeplassen, Nedre Tyholms vei, Rådhusgaten, Bankplassen, Kittelsbukt, Teaterplassen and Peder Thomassons gate.
- Marked motorcycle parking in the centre is free. The municipality states spaces in Strandgaten by Arnt frisør, Peder Thomassons gate and Nedre Tyholmsvei/Kløckers plass.
- Motorhomes can park free at Høgedal.
- A valid disabled permit gives free parking in Torvet garage after contacting the parking office. In the other garages, permit holders must pay.
EV charging and parking
The municipality's updated EV page no longer states a general exemption from parking charges for EVs, hydrogen cars or electric motorcycles. Follow the payment conditions and signs at each space. Charging is available at the top of Østre gate (two rapid chargers, one prioritised for taxis), Tyholmen garage (70), Pollen garage (60 Type 2) and Torvet garage (16). Recharge operates the Østre gate chargers, Wattif Tyholmen and Pollen, and Kople Torvet. Parking and charging are separate services.
Electric and hydrogen cars now normally pay the ordinary charge on municipal parking. There is no national free-or-discount rule — each municipality decides for itself whether to grant an exemption (Parking Regulations § 34), and more and more charge the full price. Check locally.

Disabled parking
Arendal has reserved disabled bays in the centre and in all four garages. Maximum stay is stated on signs. At Torvet garage, parking is free with a valid permit, but contact the parking office after entry. At Tyholmen, Pollen and P-hus Vest, permit holders pay. The permit does not allow breaches of ordinary signs or traffic rules. Set-down and pick-up at a disabled bay may take place without a permit when done as quickly as possible and the car is then moved.

Motorhome parking
Allowed: Arendal Municipality lists two municipal motorhome parking locations: Høgedal and the railway station.
Relevant locations:
- Høgedal: free motorhome parking. Follow signs at the site.
- Railway station: motorhomes may use ordinary parking spaces at the standard charge. Parking costs 18 kr/hour or 100 kr per 24 hrs during charging hours.
The municipality's motorhome page does not state camping facilities, reservations or a maximum stay. Check the signs before staying overnight.

- EasyPark easypark.com — Can be used for on-street parking and in garages. In garages, start EasyPark manually in the correct tariff group; it stops automatically on exit. EasyPark adds 15 per cent to the parking price.
- Autopay autopay.io — All four garages use automatic number-plate recognition. Pay automatically with a registered profile, at a card machine before exit or online within 48 hours. An invoice after the deadline has a 10 kr invoice fee. The Autopay app cannot be used for charging.
