Municipal street parking is very expensive in and near central Oslo, with lower prices further out. Within Ring 1, and in tariff group 2020 just outside Ring 1, the first hour costs 93 kr for petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles and 47 kr for electric vehicles. Between Ring 1 and Ring 3, the price is 71/36 kr, while outer zones start at 41/21 kr. Resident parking
People registered as living in a resident-parking zone may apply for a permit. Businesses with an address in the zone may also apply. Hydrogen vehicles, electric vans and holders of a disabled parking permit have free resident parking without applying. The permit is valid for one year from the payment date, with monthly payment available.

Free parking
On-street parking in Oslo is normally free in the evening, at night and on Sundays and public holidays — but the charging hours are set by the municipality and shown on the sign, so always check the signs. Car parks and garages usually charge around the clock. The most reliable free options are park-and-ride sites and time-limited parking-disc spaces.
- Sundays and public holidays (the first and second days of Christmas, New Year’s Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter days, Ascension Day, Pentecost days, 1 May and 17 May) at municipal spaces, unless otherwise signed. Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Easter Eve and Pentecost Eve are not public holidays.
- Motorcycle and scooter spaces signed for motorcycle parking.
- Areas signed with a parking-disc symbol, where a parking disc must be visible in the windscreen.
EV charging and parking
Electric vehicles pay half price at all municipal parking spaces in Oslo. Electric vans and hydrogen vehicles park free at municipal spaces, but not in charging bays. Electric vehicles park free in tariff group 2040 (commercial parking for vans).
Electric and hydrogen cars now normally pay the ordinary charge on municipal parking. There is no national free-or-discount rule — each municipality decides for itself whether to grant an exemption (Parking Regulations § 34), and more and more charge the full price. Check locally.

Disabled parking
People with a valid disabled parking permit park free at all municipal parking spaces in Oslo. The permit must be clearly visible in the windscreen. Parking in a space reserved for people with reduced mobility without a valid permit carries a 990 kr charge.

Motorhome parking
Allowed: Motorhomes may park in municipal spaces as long as the vehicle fits within the markings and the ordinary tariff is paid. There are no dedicated motorhome spaces in central Oslo; for overnight stays, use campsites such as Bogstad Camping or Ekeberg Camping.
Check signs carefully: many resident zones and zones with a two-hour maximum stay are unsuitable for motorhomes.
